Back pain can affect people of all ages who work in all types of environments. Luckily, our Keller, TX chiropractor—Dr. Ronald Faries—offers spinal decompression therapy to provide pain relief from many forms of neck and back pain, including sciatica, herniated discs, disc degeneration, and more.

What Is Spinal Decompression?

Non-surgical spinal decompression is the process of gently and carefully stretching your spine while lying on a computer guided table. The stretching allows more blood flow through the spine, lets herniated discs move back into proper position, and takes pressure off of nerves. It can provide both immediate and lasting pain relief. Spinal decompression can save you from having to resort to surgery to finally find back pain relief.

Is There Anyone Who Shouldn’t Do Spinal Decompression?

There are a few instances where spinal decompression isn’t recommended. Those are if you are pregnant, have a fracture, have advanced osteoporosis, or you have a tumor or metal implants in the spine. Dr. Faries will go over your health history and gather important health information to determine whether spinal decompression is right for you.

The Spinal Decompression Process

Spinal decompression is an outpatient procedure where you lie strapped onto a decompression table, fully clothed, and relax while the table and computer are controlled under Dr. Faries’ guidance. You can lie face-up or face-down, depending on your pain relief needs. Treatments last around half an hour. Generally, you’ll need several treatments to ensure your spine has adequate time to heal itself and eliminate pain.

There should be no pain during the process. Dr. Faries will be present for the entire treatment session to monitor your progress and stop treatment if you experience pain or discomfort. You may feel sore after treatment, but this should be a positive experience, and you may be one of the many patients able to nap through treatment.
